Program Achievements
Program Components:
1. Two-Three-Four-Year-Old Program
Developed in 1996, the program provides the community with home-based day care centers: 441 children have graduated from this program. Day care providers develop fine and gross motor skills and cognitive and social skills that enable Tangelo Park’s children to transition into Pre-K and Kindergarten already reading, writing, and doing simple mathematical skills.
2. Parent Leadership Program
This program maximizes parental involvement in their children’s lives. The initial program graduated parent leaders, who have subsequently presented the program in other communities in Central Florida.
3. Tangelo Park Program Scholarship
The Tangelo Park Program scholarship provides full tuition, room, board, and living expenses to every Tangelo Park high school graduate, who is accepted by a vocational school, community college, or public university in the state of Florida.
Program Accomplishments:
- Enacted a law that prevents insurance companies from canceling a homeowner’s policy solely because their home is qualified as a family-run daycare center
- Awarded Walt Disney Community Service Awards and grants
- Featured on WMFE-TV in its series entitled: “Family Works”
